Important Information About Gemifloxacin (Factive)
Gemifloxacin carries the potential for severe side effects, such as tendon issues, nerve damage, significant mood changes, and drops in blood sugar levels. If you notice symptoms like headaches, increased hunger, irritability, anxiety, shakiness, numbness, tingling, burning sensations, confusion, agitation, paranoia, memory lapses, or suicidal thoughts, discontinue use immediately and consult your healthcare provider.
This antibiotic can cause tendon swelling or tearing. If you experience sudden pain, swelling, bruising, tenderness, stiffness, or restricted movement in your joints, stop taking gemifloxacin right away and seek medical advice.
Consultation with Healthcare Provider Before Use
Do not use this medication if you have a known allergy to gemifloxacin or any other fluoroquinolones (such as ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, ofloxacin, norfloxacin, etc.).
A risk of tendon swelling or tearing exists while using gemifloxacin, especially affecting the Achilles tendon. This risk is heightened in individuals over 60, those taking steroids, or those with a history of kidney, heart, or lung transplants.
Inform your doctor if you have a history of: - Tendon issues, arthritis, or other joint disorders - Diabetes - Muscle or nerve conditions like myasthenia gravis - Slow heart rates or arrhythmias (particularly if treated with medications) - Long QT syndrome (personal or family history) - Difficulty swallowing pills - Liver or kidney problems - Epilepsy or seizure disorders - Low magnesium or potassium levels in the bloodstream
The effects of gemifloxacin during pregnancy are not well understood. Make sure to inform your doctor if you are pregnant.
Breastfeeding is not advised while taking gemifloxacin.
This medication is not recommended for individuals under the age of 18.
